The Timia Trio was founded in September 2024 at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal by pianist Itamar Prag, violinist June Lee, and cellist François Lamontagne. In May 2025, the Timia Trio won the bronze medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. This milestone helped raise the ensemble's profile.

From its inception, the trio has embraced a shared artistic vision rooted in honesty, sensitivity, and profound musicality, striving to bring new and meaningful interpretations to the chamber music repertoire. Since its formation, Trio Timia has worked with distinguished mentors: André Laplante, Jinjoo Cho, Jean Marchand, Guillaume Sutre, and Elizabeth Dolin.

The ensemble is led by violinist and teacher Violaine Melançon at the Schulich School of Music. This summer, the trio studied at the Lunenburg Academy of Music in the class of cellist Steven Isserlis, as well as at the Académie de musique de Flaine, France, thanks to a scholarship from Jeunesses Musicales du Canada (Aida Fund).

The Timia Trio explores a diverse repertoire, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works, always seeking to forge intimate and authentic connections with its listeners. Whether in concert, in educational settings, or through community outreach, the trio strives to share the transformative power of chamber music.
